Best Practices for Coaching

Thanks for being a coach at IGotAnOffer—we’re glad to have you on the team! To help you get acquainted with working with candidates on this platform, we’ve collected some best practices from existing coaches and put them together for you.

Before the session

First, let’s go over everything you need to know and set up before the call begins.

1. Regularly verify your availability

When you’re setting up your availability in Timekit, add regular hours that you are certain that you will be able to attend consistently. When your schedule changes, add the event to your Google calendar and mark yourself as “busy” (see image below) to block out the times when you’re unavailable. Timekit will sync automatically with your Google Calendar.

2. Coordinate with candidates for rescheduled sessions

To reschedule, email the client directly and cc contactus@igotanoffer.com to find a time that works for both of you. You can then reschedule the session in your IGotAnOffer account by selecting the three dots to the right of the session, on this page

You can also cancel the session from this page if you are not able to organize a new time with the candidate. Of course, try to keep rescheduling to a minimum to ensure a good user experience.

3. Introduce yourself before the session

If you’d like, reply-all to the setup email between you and a new candidate in order to greet them. A simple “looking forward to meeting you!” is enough to make the candidate feel welcomed.

4. Tell candidates where you do and do not have expertise

If you aren’t an expert in a domain that will be necessary for a candidate’s interview preparation, tell them ahead of time. You can offer to research the appropriate questions for the session, or you could simply cancel the session and loop in contactus@igotanoffer.com so that we can help them find a more appropriate coach.

During the session

Now, let’s get into what you can expect once your session has begun.

1. Set the stage

Use the first few minutes of the session to discuss how you and the candidate will be using the time. For example, after asking a couple of questions to get to know each other, you could specify that you’ll spend 20 minutes on a strategy question, 20 minutes on behavioral questions, and then 15 minutes on feedback.

2. Keep an eye on time

Here’s a general timeline of the session:

  • Take a couple of minutes to settle in and set the stage.
  • Spend 40-45 minutes on the mock interview.
  • Save about ten minutes at the end of the session to give feedback.

3. Check in with no-shows

If your candidate hasn’t appeared within the first fifteen minutes of the call, it’s considered a no-show, and you are due your coaching fee. If the candidate asks for a reschedule, put us in touch with them at contactus@igotanoffer.com, and we’ll handle their requests.

After the session

Once the session is over, there are a few ways that you can follow-up with the candidate.

1. Ask politely for a review

If you feel that a session went particularly well, but the candidate has not left a review, you can reach out and politely ask for one.

2. Stay within the platform

Some candidates may ask for further sessions outside of the IGotAnOffer platform. In this case, you can inform them that, as stated in your coaching agreement, if you meet a candidate through IGotAnOffer, you must conduct all subsequent sessions with them through the platform.

Frequently asked questions:

1. How should I respond to candidates who email me after a session?

Email support is not included in the service that candidates pay for, so you may answer if you so choose, but you are not obligated to reply. If a candidate is sending you too many emails, let us know at contactus@igotanoffer.com, and we’ll be able to help.

2. How will I receive my payments?

You’ll get paid monthly via Wise.com (formerly TransferWise). First, you’ll receive an automated invoice from us on the last day of the month, containing information on the sessions you completed during that time.

You’ll find past invoices in your coaching account, here.

If you’ve provided us with your bank details, then you don’t need to do anything at this point. You will receive your payment via direct deposit.

If you have not provided us with your bank details, then you'll get an email from Wise.com with a link that allows you to access your payment. You will have access to this payment for 7 days.

If you have any questions about taxes, we recommend that you consult a local tax professional.

3. Where can I cancel and reschedule sessions?

Once your profile is finalized, you'll have access to your IGotAnOffer coaching account. This is where you can see your upcoming and completed sessions, cancel or reschedule a session, modify your availability, and find your invoices.

If you have any feedback for us about the platform or otherwise, we’d be happy to hear it. Send an email to contactus@igotanoffer.com

All the best,

The IGotAnOffer Team
